A 32-year-old man has appeared in court in the Scottish Borders charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

It follows a crash on the A6088 between Chesters and the Carter Bar on July 28th last year, which claimed three lives - including that of his older brother.

Nathon Gibbon, from Ashington, Northumberland, made no plea when he appeared in private at Jedburgh Sheriff Court this morning (Monday).

He was committed for further examination and released on bail.

According to a police statement released at the time, Nathon's brother Jason was riding a Suzuki GSXR when it was involved in a collision with a Kawasaki ZX1400 motorbike.

The 37-year-old died in the crash, which also claimed the lives of Newcastle couple Andrew Lartey, 30, and his girlfriend Georgia Tate, 23 - who was a passenger on the other bike.

Andrew, who was driving the Kawasaki, was the lead singer of Dire Straits tribute band, The Straits.
