Motorists visiting beauty spots in the Borders are being reminded to keep any valuables left in their vehicles out of sight.

It comes after a VW Tiguan parked at Cardrona Forest, in Peebleshire, was broken into and a number of items taken from inside.

Earlier this year, money and bank cards were also stolen during thefts from two cars parked at Neidpath Castle in Peebles.

Clothes and bags were also taken in the raids which took place less than a fortnight apart.

The latest incident took place at the Cardrona Forest car park on Thursday, May 30th, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

PC Craig Turnbull, from Police Scotland, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have noticed anyone acting suspiciously.

"In particular, we would like to speak to the two women with a transit van observed having a picnic around the time of the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2382 of May 30th. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

And, PC Turnbull added: "We encourage vehicle owners to remember to keep all vehicles locked when unattended, and remove all valuables or store them safely out of sight."
