British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was punched in the face by a man on the Borders Railway.

Passengers had to intervene to stop the attack, which happened on a train travelling between Edinburgh and Tweedbank last month.

The ugly scenes unfolded between 8.30pm and 9.40pm on Saturday, September the 9th.

Both the victim and her attacker boarded the service at Edinburgh Waverley.

But, while the woman left the train at Galashiels, the man stayed on until the final stop in Tweedbank.
