It's an annual event to celebrate the people who make up the Army, Royal Navy and Air Force.

Armed Forces Day this year takes place on Saturday, June the 24th.

And Scottish Borders Council today (Monday) raised the Armed Forces Day flag above its headquarters in Newtown St Boswells to mark the occasion.

The flag was raised by two members of 6 SCOTS 0 a Reserve Infantry Battalion within The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Looking on were representatives from a number of veterans' charities currently active in the Borders.

Councillor John Greenwell, the local authority's Champion for Armed Forces and Veterans, said: "I am delighted that Scottish Borders Council is once again supporting Armed Forces Day, taking the opportunity to acknowledge the vitally important contribution made by everyone who is part of the military community, from our currently serving troops to the reservists, veterans, cadets and of course the families who support them.

“The support shown by our local communities throughout this week is also appreciated, as we come together in recognising the efforts of all those who work so hard to maintain the safety and security of our nation.”
