A bomb disposal team has been called out to a property at the side of the A7, south of Hawick, after "suspect materials" were found inside.

Emergency services swooped on the area following the discovery, and an area around the building, near Teviothead, was sealed off.

The busy cross-border route was closed between Hawick and Langholm while the area was made safe, but has since reopened.

Police were first alerted after being called out to a report of a disturbance around 11pm last night (Tuesday).

Emergency services remain at the scene (3pm) and enquiries are ongoing.

But police say there is no risk to the public.

A spokesperson said: "Police and emergency services are in attendance at a property next to the A7, south of Linhope, between Langholm and Hawick.

"Officers were called around 11pm on Tuesday to a report of a disturbance and subsequently found suspect materials within a property.

"The EOD - Explosive Ordnance Disposal - are in attendance."

Later they added: "Thank you for your patience while the road was closed."
