Casualty airlifted to hospital after falling 125ft on Berwickshire coast

One person has been airlifted to hospital after falling 125 feet down a steep incline on the Berwickshire coast.

Police and ambulance crews raced to the scene, near Fast Castle, after the alarm was raised shortly before 5am on Saturday.

They were supported by Coastguard teams from Eyemouth, Berwick and Dunbar, as well as the lifeboat from St Abbs.

The casualty was treated for serious injuries before being evacuated on a stretcher to a Coastguard helicopter, which flew them to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh.

A spokesperson for Eyemouth Coastguard team said: "We were tasked along with colleagues from Dunbar Coastguard, Berwick Coastguard rescue team, St Abbs Lifeboat,Scottish Ambulance Service, Police Scotland and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.

"Teams worked well together to locate and treat a casualty for serious injuries sustained after falling approximately 125ft down a steep incline in the vicinity of Fast Castle.

"Once stabilised, the casualty was packaged into our evac stretcher and transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the coastguard helicopter."
