Redcar put themselves in pole position to progress in the Championship Knockout Cup, opening up a 16-point advantage over Berwick following Sunday's first leg in Cleveland.

The weather had played havoc with the fixture before reserve Jason Edwards led the way with 13 points from seven rides; Danny King and Charles Wright also hitting double figures for the home side.

Australian debutant Rory Schlein's 12 points keeps Berwick in with a chance of pulling back the deficit when the sides meet again at Berwick on April 29th.

Berwick were hampered by a freak crash during the practice laps in which their skipper Leon Flint suffered an ankle injury, which restricted him to just three points on a track where he was crowned British under-19 Champion last season.
