WATCH: Berwick welcomes 'first' cruise ship of the year
Sightseers were out in numbers in Berwick today (Sunday) as the town welcomed visitors from a passing cruise ship.
The Hanseatic Spirit - which can accommodate 230 passengers and 170 crew - dropped anchor off the Northumberland coast, on its journey from Greenland to Germany.
The visit was made possible following an upgrade of the town's landing pontoon.
Berwick welcomed its first ever cruise ships in the summer of 2021, following the multi-million pound investment which it's hoped could give local tourism businesses a boost.
However, the Hanseatic Spirit is believed to be the first to visit this year.
It travelled down from Shetland overnight, before passengers were ferried ashore to sample what England's most northerly town has to offer.

While some explored the town centre, the local lifeboat team drove out to give the ship "a wave".
And locals lined the shore to catch a glimpse of the vessel before it headed off for Hamburg.
Among those looking on at Spittal beach was Joyce Guthrie, from Berwick Parish Church. She told Greatest Hits Radio: "I think it's good for the town and good for the port.
"It brings extra business to the town, which is really important; although many of the shops are closed today.
"Some did come up to the church and had a good look around, and they left very impressed."
