Last updated 22nd Nov 2024
A 34-year-old man has been jailed for a total of seven years after he was found guilty of raping a woman in the Scottish Borders.
Adam Wood, from Selkirk, was also convicted of indecent behaviour towards his victim when she was aged between 12 and 14-years-of-age, and another girl - aged 14.
The offences took place at addresses in Hawick and Selkirk between 2008 and 2013, when Wood was aged between 18 and 23.
The High Court in Edinburgh this morning (Friday) heard the former handyman maintained his innocence, but is willing to engage in any rehabilitation programme offered to him in prison to demonstrate that he poses little risk once released.

Wood, who wore his hair in a ponytail and sported a hoodie in the dock, was supported by his family in the public benches.
The Judge, John Morris KC, noted his good work record and that he wasn't in the best of health, having been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and been on anti-depressants for the last eight years.
In addition to the jail term, Wood was also banned from contacting both his victims and placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
