Dramatic video footage has captured the scenes on the A72 where a lorry left the road and overturned - leaving the vehicle appearing to hang precariously over the edge of an embankment.

The A72 was blocked between Innerleithen and Walkerburn following the incident, which unfolded earlier this (Wednesday) afternoon.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and motorists were urged to avoid the area.

It led to gridlock on the back road between Peel and Traquair, with reports another lorry got stuck in the diversion.

One local said: "Back road from Innerliethen to Walkerburn is gridlocked. My husband is stuck there and has only moved 10 yards in an hour."

It's unclear if anyone was injured, but the road has since reopened - with police directing traffic.

Bus services were also disrupted and are also now getting through.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3.15pm on Wednesday, police received a report of a crash involving a lorry on the A72 at Innerleithen.

“One man was taken to hospital and the road has reopened. Enquiries are ongoing."
