“Emergency services attended and the car driver was checked by the Scottish Ambulance Service. There were no reported injuries on the bus.

It's the latest in a series of incidents in the Borders over the past few days, which have left some of the region's main routes at a standstill.

On Tuesday, four people were taken to hospital following two crashes within hours of each other.

Three people were taken for treatment in Edinburgh following a smash involving two vehicles on the A68 between Soutra and Oxton, around 1.20pm.

And then, around two-and-a-half hours later, as traffic was being diverted, a man was rushed to Borders General Hospital following a three-car crash on the A7 north of Stow.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the A68 crash, involving a blue Audi A5 and a silver Vauxhall Vivaro - near to the junction for Glengelt - to contact them.

Both male drivers were taken to the Royal Infirmity of Edinburgh for treatment, as was the male passenger of the Audi. Their injuries are not described as being life-threatening.

A series of road closures are also planned in Galashiels and Selkirk today as the King and Queen make their first official visit to the Borders following their Crowning earlier this year.
