Motorcyclist taken to hospital following collision with car on A72

A motorcyclist's been taken to hospital following a collision with a car on the A72 near Galashiels.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised around 2.40pm on Friday (March 14th).

And the road was closed between Galashiels and Clovenfords for several hours while the area was made safe.

The man who was riding the bike was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment, and his condition has been described as "stable".

Police say enquiries are ongoing.

It's the second serious crash involving a motorcycle in the region in less than a week.

A 28-year-old man was left fighting for his life in hospital following a crash on the A7 south of Hawick on Sunday.

He had been riding southbound when he appears to have lost control of his Yahama R6 bike at Teindside Bridge.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where hospital staff describe his condition as "critical".

Referring to the latest incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.40pm on Friday, police were called to a report of a collision between a motorcycle and a car on the A72 between Galashiels and Clovenfords.

"The male motorcyclist was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.  Medical staff describe his condition as stable.

"None of the occupants of the car were injured.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
