Motorists in the Borders are being warned of disruption ahead, with the A7 set to close for ten nights of resurfacing works.

The section between Glenmayne and the Kingsknowes roundabout in Galashiels is due to shut between Monday, June the 17th and 24th.

However, with the works due to take place between 7.30pm and 6am, there are concerns the final night could affect supporters following the Braw Lads' Gathering's annual rideout to Lindean.

Earlier works are planned on the A7 at Mosspaul between Monday, June 10th and Wednesday, June 12th (from 7pm to 6am); and north of Synton - between Selkirk and Hawick - on Thursday, June 13th (from 7pm to 4am).

BEAR Scotland, which is carrying out the work on behalf of Transport, says diversions of up to 13.7 miles will be in place, and access will be maintained for local residents and emergency vehicles.

No work will take place Saturday or Sunday.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on these sections of the A7 and will greatly enhance the driving experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimize the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Elsewhere, works on the A68 north of Jedburgh are set to be extended by one night and will now finish on Monday, June 3rd. No work - between Lilliardsedge Caravan Park and Red House - will take place on Saturday or Sunday, June 1st and 2nd.

Further up the road, the historic Lothian Bridge, which carries traffic over the Tyne Water at Pathhead, is to close overnight on Thursday, June 20th, for a routine inspection. Diversions will be in place between 9pm and 6am.

And the A702 will be closed at West Linton on the night of Friday, June 21st, for similar work during the same time at the bridge carrying the trunk road over the Lyne Water.

Motorists are being urged to plan ahead.
