A motorcyclist is fighting for his life in hospital following a crash on the A7 south of Hawick.

The 28-year-old man was riding southbound when he appears to have lost control of his Yahama R6 bike at Teindside Bridge.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised around 4.30pm on Sunday.

The man - who was riding with two other motorcyclists - was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where hospital staff describe his condition as "critical".

The road was closed between Hawick and Langholm for six hours while the wreckage was cleared and police examined the scene.

Officers have this morning issued an appeal for information.

Sergeant Jamie Humpage said: “Our investigation to establish the cause of the crash is ongoing and I urge anyone who witnessed it take place to contact us.

“If you were driving on this road around the time and have any information or dash-cam footage that may assist, please get in touch.

“Information should be passed to Police Scotland through 101 quoting reference number 2383 of March 9th.”
