Motorists are being warned of disruption ahead as one of Galashiels' busiest roads closes for three nights this week for resurfacing.

BEAR Scotland - working on behalf of the national agency, Transport Scotland - says it's essential for safety.

The roundabout on the A7 at Kingsknowe and A6091 exit road to Tweedbank will shut in both directions between 7.30pm and 6am on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17th to 19th.

But the roads contractor says emergency services will be given access through the works - which sits on a key route to Borders General Hospital - at all times; and local access for residents within the closure points will also be maintained.

A spokesperson said: "For those wishing to continue along the A7, a diversion will be signposted along (old) Abbotsford Road which runs parallel to the A7, which won’t add significantly to journey times.

"For those wishing to access the A6091, a diversion route will be signposted between Selkirk and Tweedbank Roundabout via the A699, A68 and A6091, adding approximately 12 minutes and 9.6 miles onto affected journeys."

It had initially been hoped the work could be completed over two nights.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It is essential for safety that we close this section of carriageway while resurfacing takes place.

“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.”
