Man, 66, suffers serious injuries in A7 crash

A 66-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on the A7 in the Scottish Borders.
The motorist was travelling just south of the junction for Fountainhall when his blue Toyota Rav4 crashed into a telecommunications pole - leaving the road and coming to a stop in a field.
The road was closed between Fountainhall and Stow for several hours following the incident, which unfolded around 10.35am yesterday (Thursday).

It's the latest in a series of serious and fatal crashes on the busy cross-border route, which links Edinburgh and the Borders.
However, it's understood no other vehicles were involved.
Emergency services attended, and police are now appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Sergeant Barry Sommerville said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the crash, or who saw the vehicle prior, to contact local officers.
“I’d also ask those with dash-cams to review the footage to see if it has captured anything of significance that could assist with our investigation.”
