The A7 is currently CLOSED near the Scotland-England border.

It follows a collision opposite the March Bank Hotel, south of Canonbie.

According to Cumbria Police, only one vehicle was involved.

The alarm was raised shortly after 4pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

Motorists are being urged to find an alternative route.

One eyewitness said: "I think it’s been a horrific one, as lots of emergency services and still more coming."

It affects traffic travelling between Hawick and Carlisle, with Police Scotland helping with the road closure.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "Emergency services are currently responding to a single vehicle road traffic collision on the A7 in the area of Netherby.

"Officers were called to the collision at 4:12pm today (May 22).

"The road is currently blocked and will be closed for some time. Motorists are asked to avoid the area."
