The A7 has been blocked following reports of a "serious" crash between Selkirk and Hawick.

Emergency services are currently on the scene (4.30pm), near the turn-off for Ashkirk.

It's unclear how many vehicles are involved but motorists are being diverted.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.55pm on Tuesday (August 15th), we were called to a report of a crash involving two vehicles on the A7 near Ashkirk.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed.”

An air ambulance has also landed at the scene, before flying on to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh.

Local bus services are being diverted via St Boswells. But, with "huge tailbacks" being reported, motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
