Motorists are being warned of disruption ahead as planned works get underway on the A1, A7 and A702.
The A1 is set to close for FIFTEEN NIGHTS of resurfacing from today (Monday, April 3rd) until Friday, and again between April 17th and 28th.
Although some of the works are taking place in East Lothian, they will affect those travelling on the cross-border route between Berwick and Edinburgh.
And motorists are being urged to plan ahead.
This week (April 3rd to 7th), traffic will be diverted off the A1 between Thistly Cross Roundabout and Broxburn Junction via the A119 then onto the A1087 towards Summerfield Road then to Queens Road before going back to the A1087. The diversion will add around five miles, or 12 minutes, to affected journeys.
And, between April 17th to 28th, motorists will be diverted off the A1 between Tower Farm junction and Eyemouth junction via the A1107 then to Coldingham towards Eyemouth before going back onto the A1107. This diversion will add around 1.2 miles, or eight minutes, to affected journeys.
None of these works are currently planned to take place over weekends, and emergency services will allowed access at all times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The surfacing improvements will help to address any defects on this section of the A1.
“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out this project. We will do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
