A 70-year-old motorcyclist has died after his bike was involved in a collision with a lorry and a car on the A68 at Earlston.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised shortly after midday yesterday (Wednesday), but the pensioner - who was riding a red and cream Moto Guzzi motorbike - could not be saved.

The road between Earlston and Lauder was closed for more than five hours while the wreckage was cleared and officers examined the scene.

No-one else was injured in the crash, which also involved a silver Ford Eco-sport, and a white DAF lorry.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Sergeant Grant Hastie said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and they have asked for privacy at this time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who has not already spoken to officers and who can assist to get in touch.”

It's the third serious crash involving a motorcycle already this month.

On March 9th, a motorcyclist was left fighting for his life in hospital following a crash on the A7 south of Hawick. And on March 14th, another was taken to hospital following a collision with a car on the A72 near Galashiels.

Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1443 of Wednesday, March 19th, 2025.
