A woman's been taken to hospital following a crash involving two vehicles on the A68 near Oxton.

The road has been closed near the Carfraemill roundabout while the wreckage is cleared.

The incident happened near the border between Midlothian and the Scottish Borders shortly before 9am on Wednesday, and affected traffic between Lauder and Pathhead.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.55am on Wednesday, police received a report of a two-vehicle crash on the A68 near Oxton.

"One woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment and recovery has been arranged.”

It's the latest in a series of smashes on our roads already this year.

On Sunday, January 12th, a 75-year-old man died following a two car-crash on the A7 north of Hawick.

A 52-year-old woman, who was driving the other vehicle, is appealing for help to find a Good Samaritan who stopped to help her.

Fiona-Jane Tunnock is still in hospital a week after the two-car collision.

Posting on Facebook, she said: "This time last week I was involved in a serious road accident on A7 between Hawick and Selkirk. I came round to find someone checking on me and my passenger, Dougal (the dog).

"Adrenaline and no longer in shock, I think his name was Dave and recently moved to Springfield, St Boswells.

"I am still in trauma ward at Royal with long recovery ahead, but I am here; sadly, the other driver isn’t."

Elsewhere, train services have resumed on the East Coast Main Line after emergency services dealt with an incident between Berwick and Newcastle.

A spokesperson for train operator LNER said: "Emergency services are on the scene and have tended to the person, they have taken them to a place of safety and all lines have now reopened."
