Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A1 near Reston.

The road was blocked both ways between Coldingham and Reston following a collision involving two vehicles around 2pm, but has since reopened.

It comes as a Berwickshire councillor accuses BEAR Scotland of going back on a pledge to improve visibility in the area.

James Anderson, who represents the area on Scottish Borders Council, claims not removing trees at the junction for Reston puts safety at risk.

But BEAR Scotland says the trees are on private land and they don't consider them to be a safety concern.

Train services on the East Coast Main Line between Berwick and Alnmouth were also halted due to safety checks.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.05pm on Tuesday, 25 July, 2023, we were called to a report of a crash involving two vehicles on the A1 near Reston.

“Two people were taken to hospital and the road fully reopened shortly after 4pm.”
