A1 in Berwickshire to close overnight for repairs to safety barrier

Motorists using the A1 in Berwickshire are being warned of disruption ahead.

The road is set to close both ways overnight next week to allow repairs to a safety barrier at Grantshouse to be completed.

It will affect traffic between the Ayton and Tower Farm junctions.

A diversion of just over a mile will be in place, between 8pm on Tuesday, May 14th, and 6am the following day.

BEAR Scotland - which looks after the road for Transport Scotland - says an exception has been made for the emergency services, who will be allowed through.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.

James Petrie, the road contractor's South East Network Bridges Manager, said: “These works are required to finish the repairs to the existing vehicle road safety system.”

“It is essential for the safety of road users and our workforce that we implement these traffic management measures during the works. To minimise disruption, we have planned these works to be undertaken overnight. Some delays should, however, be expected.

“We advise motorists to check live traffic information before travelling and thank them in advance for their patience and understanding.”
