A1 closed near Scotland-England border following two-vehicle crash

The A1 has been closed in both directions at Berwick following a two-vehicle crash.

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, following the collision near Berwick.

An air ambulance was called out just before midday.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended the scene and the motorbike rider was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“The driver of the car remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

“The road was temporarily closed but has since reopened.”

It affected traffic between Scremerston and the East Ord roundabout on the cross-border route.

One eyewitness said: "Someone's been knocked off their motorbike."

Another added: "Still long hold ups, air ambulance in attendance."
