Van driver rushed to hospital following early morning collision with HGV

A 46-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision involving a van and a lorry on the A1.

It happened between Alnwick and Brownieside around 1am this morning (Friday).

The cross-border route was closed for a number of hours following the smash but has since fully re-opened.

While the driver of the Ford Transit van was taken to hospital, the driver of the Volvo HGV was uninjured and remained at the scene to assist police with their enquires.

And officers are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.

A number of witnesses have already been spoken to, but officers are now asking anyone else who is yet to come forward to get in touch with police.
