West Midlands Trains strike action taking place
It's part of a dispute over pay, job security and conditions.
Workers at West Midlands Train are going on strike today (Friday) ahead of a fresh wave of national industrial action in the coming week which will cripple services across the country.
Members of the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) will walk out in a dispute over pay, job security and conditions.
Control room, ticket office and station staff will be on strike, hitting services across the West Midlands.
TSSA organising director Nadine Rae said:
"Our members in West Midlands Trains are seeing the real value of their wages plummet in this Tory cost-of-living crisis. This cannot be allowed to continue.
"TSSA members want the same as anyone does right now: job security, a decent day's pay for a decent day's work, and reasonable working conditions. We're ready to negotiate any time, but West Midlands have to be able and willing to negotiate with us, and right now they simply are not.
"New Transport Secretary Mark Harper and the Department for Transport need to allow West Midlands Trains to make a reasonable offer on pay and job security - either by coming to the table themselves or allowing WMT to negotiate freely."
The government has previously criticised unions for the strikes, accusing them of disrupting people's daily lives.
The company said a limited service will be in operation on Friday.
