West Midlands Police have seen a 40% increase of firearms seized in 2024, compared to last year.
This year, 210 lethal barrelled firearms were recovered by West Midlands Police since January – last year 150 were seized.
Amongst the 210 guns was a Madsen machine gun. It was hidden behind a bath panel at a home in Stechford, along with tools to convert blank-firing guns into live weapons.
West Midlands Police have also made 45 arrests in connection to the seizures.
Det Supt Ryan Chambers, head of the Major Crime Unit, said: “We’ve had a hugely successful year targeting the criminals who pose the biggest threat to the safety of people in the West Midlands.
“The impact of taking 200 guns off the streets of the region in a year can’t be underestimated.”
