A new litter of future police dogs have been named after West Midlands Police put out a plea for helping to the public.

The cocker spaniels were born on Remembrance Sunday.

Response on social media from members of the public have led to the puppies being named Edith, Flora, Kipling, Harold, Archibald, and Ernest.

West Midlands Police said: "Dogs were valued companions during WWI. The bond between our handlers and their dogs is unbreakable and we couldn’t do this job without our four-legged heroes.

"Over the next 12 months we will keep you updated on how they get on.

The puppies will be settling into temporary homes with some of the force's volunteers over the next few weeks before heading into training.
