A man from the West Midlands says he's in "inescapable hell" after suffering with long Covid for the past 19 months.

Before the pandemic, Dr Andrew Wood had two high-functioning jobs and was training for a marathon, but his body began to 'systematically break down' after contracting Covid.

Now he says long Covid has given him cardiac, circulatory and vascular issues, as well as mental health problems such as stress, anxiety and depression.

He's travelling to Germany for a pioneering treatment help cure his symptoms, after claiming that 'GPs, hospitals and specialists had no answers'.

He says that large private and public health body advice for sufferers of long Covid to do light exercise is dangerous, and is in fact "by far the worst thing to recommend people".

The NHS' description of long Covid

Dr Andrew Wood says the public were let down by the Government: "The way that the Government have dealt with all facets of the Covid pandemic on the whole is unsurprising.

"It’s been appalling, and seems to me to highlight the difficulties and the dissonance between politics and science.

"The last few months have been inescapable hell. Physically I’ve deteriorated over 19 months, I’m now sofa-bound. The GPs, the hospitals, the specialists have no answers."

MPs recently released a report which criticised the Government's actions during the Covid pandemic, including the time it took to lockdown the country.
