West Mercia Police say they are committed to making roads in the area safer by clamping down on uninsured drivers.

Throughout 2023, the force say 1,060 motorists were detected and prosecuted in the patches they cover as not having valid insurance for the vehicle they were driving.

Operation Drive Insured, a week-long national operation developed by MIB (Motor Insurers’ Bureau), is taking place this week, aimed at highlighting the risks to driving uninsured, with West Mercia Police backing it.

"Reducing the harm caused on our roads is a key commitment for West Mercia Police," said Inspector Darren Godsall from the road policing team.

"Operation Drive Insured is targeting those individuals and seizing those vehicles who choose to drive uninsured, and goes along with our year round operational activities to reduce it.

"This is about making our roads safer, reducing harm, and reducing criminal activity on our roads, and we target what is known as the 'fatal four' throughout the year in order to do just that."

It's reported at least one person every day is seriously injured by an uninsured, or hit and run driver.
