On Monday, Danny Hughes, of Queens Court in Madeley, was given a three-year custodial sentence for domestic abuse.

The 34-year-old from Telford pled guilty to domestic related aggravated bodily harm, and intentional strangulation at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Detective Constable Chris Russell, from Telford Protecting Vulnerable People Team, said it was one of the worst cases of sustained domestic violence he’d seen.

“One night he attacked her with a hammer for a sustained period causing various injuries.

“It’s down to the bravery of the victim coming forward and supporting our investigation that has led to this dangerous offender being convicted,” said Russell.

On another occasion he strangled her to the point she could not breathe.
