The court of appeal extended it after they found his original sentence to be 'unduly lenient'

A convicted rapist from Telford has had his sentence extended by the court of appeal.

They found his original sentence, of nine years, to be 'unduly lenient'.

In July, he was found guilty of multiple sexual offences, including the rape of a girl under the age of 13 in Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Robert Norry, 36, of Brereton, Brookside, was then sentenced to nine years in prison.

He was also given a 15-year restraining order and a 15-year sexual harm prevention order, as well as being placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Today, his sentence has been extended to 12 years.

This means, he will spend 11 years in prison and one on licence.

Detective Constable Cara Winfer, from Telford's Protecting Vulnerable People Team, said: “The court of appeal carefully reviewed the sentence Norry was given by the Judge, and deemed it to be unduly lenient.

"Whilst any sentence given to Norry for the offences he committed won’t be long enough, hopefully this offers some form of closure to the victims and family who have to live with what he’s done," she said.
