A Tamworth player who received a racist comment following their 3-0 defeat against Tottenham on Sunday says he is "confused and disappointed" at how his club has handled the abuse.

Chris Wreh missed last night's game against Boldmere St Michaels, saying, "I am disappointed the club has not publicly supported me yet, which has left me feeling confused and disappointed."

Mr Wreh continued to say he had been told the club was handling the matter "internally", He said: "I cannot agree or condone this approach.

"If these incidents are kept 'in-house', they will never be addressed. I hope everyone understands my reasons for speaking out."

It follows a private message he had received on Instagram from a fan who claimed to have lost money on Tamworth's loss, in which he was racially abused.

Tamworth FC posted online that it operates a "zero-tolerance policy against all forms of discrimination and abuse."

We have contacted Tamworth FC for a comment.
