Major incident declared and at Wharfage and Ironbridge as Storm Franklin causes severe flood warning

Telford & Wrekin Council have declared a major incident in Wharfage and Ironbridge and are asking residents to evacuate from this afternoon due to flooding risk from the River Severn.

River levels are high and forecast to rise further at the Buildwas river gauge as a results of heavy rainfall due to Storm Franklin.

The water level is predicted to peak in the area at between 6.6m and 7m on Tuesday night. Local people are being asked to avoid low lying roads and footpaths near watercourse and to avoid contact with flood water. People are also being asked to move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety.
