Police have introduced special powers in West Bromwich town centre following reports of anti-social behaviour.

A Section 35 dispersal order is now in place which allows officers to move on people believed to causing trouble.

The powers will be in place until Sunday evening at 9pm.

It comes after someone was assaulted on New Street, which has been linked to a large group of young people reportedly intimidating members of the public.

Inspector James Proffitt said: “We won’t tolerate this kind of behaviour and we have put the Section 35 dispersal in place to move anyone on who we believe may be causing problems.

"This dispersal order will be in place over the weekend until Sunday evening. We will have extra officers in the area over the weekend to offer reassurance.”
