A man has been arrested following a serious sexual assault that took place in a layby near Shifnal on Sunday evening (April 13).

Police say the incident occurred between 5pm and 6pm on Woodhouse Lane, where a woman in her 30s was raped.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape on Monday (April 14) and remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

Officers are now appealing for information from the public as part of their ongoing investigation.

PC Ethan Doore, who is leading the appeal, said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or may have witnessed it to please get in touch as it can help with our investigation.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a woman walking along Woodhouse Lane shortly after the time of the assault or a black Audi A4 S Line parked in the layby. We hope this may help jog people’s memories.”

Police have confirmed that they are not looking to identify any further suspects in connection with the case. The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.
