Police have arrested a man after gun shots were fired in Smethwick.

Detectives launched an investigation after a gun was fired towards an address in Grenville Drive at around 1.10am on Saturday 9 March.

They acted on information and a 22-year-old man was yesterday arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent.

He was detained in London and is currently in police custody for questioning.

West Midlands Police said: "Although damage was caused to an address, thankfully no-one was injured in the incident.

"We won't tolerate gun crime on our streets and we'll look to act on any intelligence we receive.

"We're running Operation Target to combat serious and organised crime offences."
