Gunman jailed for submachine gun shooting in Smethwick
Mohammed Khan fired a potentially lethal Skorpion weapon
A gunman has been jailed for more than 15 years after firing a potentially lethal Skorpion weapon in Smethwick.
Mohammed Khan damaged a house and parked car after using the highly dangerous submachine gun in Melrose Place.
Khan of St Pauls Road, was part of a group who descended in the street at just before 4am on 6 September last year after a dispute.
He was then handed the Skorpion from an associate which he fired in the direction of a man standing in a doorway.
Thankfully, no-one was injured but damage was caused to a house window and door.
The group fled in a hired Rolls Royce and after quick time investigations we managed to trace the vehicle just hours later.
Khan was arrested and then charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
The 29-year-old was convicted following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court and was sentenced earlier this week to 15 years and six months in prison.
West Midlands Police said Skorpion weapons are designed in Eastern Europe and are highly dangerous as they can fire up to 800 rounds a minute.
