Extra safe haven nights launched to keep Wolverhampton crowds safe during December
They're offering extended support, first aid, and safe travel assistance on weekends
Visitors to Wolverhampton city centre will benefit from extended Safe Haven services this December, made possible through funding from the Safer Wolverhampton Partnership and Wolverhampton BID.
The Late Night Safe Haven, delivered by Wolverhampton BID in collaboration with the City of Wolverhampton Council, West Midlands Police, and the University of Wolverhampton, will be open in Queen Square on Fridays and Saturdays throughout December.
This service offers a secure space where visitors can access care, guidance, and assistance. Free cups of water are provided, and staff can help attendees make safe travel arrangements home.
Supported by a dedicated First Aid team, the initiative helps reduce demand on the NHS, police, and ambulance services, while ensuring Wolverhampton’s streets remain welcoming for those enjoying the city’s restaurants, bars, pubs, and nightclubs.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said:
"This extra provision will make a real difference, ensuring that people enjoying our vibrant city centre can do so safely, while also reducing pressure on emergency services.
"In doing so, and by supporting licensed venues, and helping to tackle night time anti-social behaviour, the Safe Haven plays a vital role in ensuring that a great night out in Wolverhampton is also a safe night out.
"It’s a fantastic example of partnership working, and I am delighted that together we can provide this vital support during the busy festive period."
