A mother from Wolverhampton is pleading for people to learn CPR after her daughter died from an unexpected heart attack aged 29.

Emma Carrington found her daughter, Lauren Smith, collapsed on her bathroom floor in January 2023.

She administered CPR but unfortunately it was too late for Lauren.

Now, Emma is fundraising for defibrillators to be put in place across Wolverhampton. The first one she raised funding for was put close to Lauren's old school at East Park Library.

"I lost my best friend, I lost my daughter, my granddaughter lost her mummy.

"I am determined to help save other people's lives, so that they do not have to go through what we have to go through every day.

"CPR can save lives, defibrillators can save lives. If I can save one life with what I am doing, then Lauren died a hero," she said.

Would you give CPR to your partner?

The British Heart Foundation said half of couples living with a partner are reluctant to give life-saving treatment to them for fear of causing injury.

Meanwhile, 8 in 10 cardiac arrests happen in the home.

"Give them the chance to say thank you"

Emma is urging couples to learn life-saving treatment, so that others do not have to experience her pain.

"I spoke to my daughter and saw her the night before. I did not expect that was the last time I was going to speak to her.

"You need to learn CPR. You might be hurting them, but you might also be able to save them. Give them the chance to say thank you," she said.
