Police in Reading appeal for witnesses after a woman is stabbed

The incident is being investigated by the domestic abuse unit

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Reading on Monday (4/7).

At around 7.30pm, a man attacked the victim, a woman in her forties, whom he knows, by the benches outside St Mary’s Church on Chain Street.

The victim suffered a stab wound to the neck and was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital for further treatment – she has since been discharged.

The offender is described as a white man, aged in his forties, with dark hair, and wearing a black headband/bandana and tracksuit-style clothing.

Detective Constable Wendy Brown, of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, based at Reading police station, said:

“I am appealing to anybody who witnessed this incident to please get in touch with us.

“Also, if you have any CCTV footage in the area or any dash-cam footage if you were driving in the area around the time, I’d also ask that you check any recordings in case it has captured something that could assist our investigation.
