Woman racially abused and assaulted on Reading bus

Police appeal for information

Police are appealing for the victim to come forward along with witnesses following an incident of assault and racially aggravated public order in Reading.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on Friday (17/11) on the number 16 bus, travelling on Overdown Road towards Purley.

The offender was racially abusive to the victim, a woman in her twenties or thirties, before putting his hands around her neck and attempting to strangle her.

When officers arrived, the victim had got off the bus and they have been unable to trace her.

Investigating officer, PC Emily Lewis said:

“I’m appealing to anybody who believes that they witnessed this incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.

“I am also appealing to the victim to come forward as we have been unable to track them down so far.

“You can do so by calling 101 or making a report online, quoting reference number 43230518272.

“Alternatively, for anonymity, you can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
