Wokingham Borough Council’s new flagship community building, Carnival hub, has officially opened its doors and welcomed customers for the very first time.

The new Carnival Hub brings together a large leisure centre and a new home for Wokingham library, along with flexible cultural use of the space. It has been built on the site of the former 1990s swimming pool and leisure centre in Wellington Road, which was knocked down in spring 2020.

The new Wokingham Leisure Centre @ Carnival Hub, includes swimming pools, children’s splash pad, a health suite (sauna, salt and steam rooms), 120 fitness suite, fitness studios including group cycling studio, a café and a dual-purpose hall for sports or 400 seat-cultural performances. There will also be a specialist gym for those with long term health conditions.

Cllr Ian Shenton, executive member for environment, sport and leisure, said:

“This is a really exciting moment for the residents of Wokingham Borough, who have been waiting patiently for this state of the art leisure facility to open its door in the heart of the town. The new centre has something for everyone regardless of your age or fitness levels; and I hope it will exceed everyone’s expectations.”

Council leader Cllr Clive Jones said:

“This new leisure facility will support our residents to remain active and pursue a healthy lifestyle. I am delighted that local people can now enjoy the many benefits the new leisure centre will bring.”

The regular opening hours of Wokingham Leisure Centre @ Carnival Hub will be open Monday to Friday 6am to 10.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 7 am to 8 pm.
