Snow and ice warnings issued for Berkshire and North Hampshire

Two weather warnings have been issued for the South East this weekend including in Berkshire and North Hampshire.

The first yellow alert, in place from 12pm on Saturday (6 February) to midnight on Sunday (7 February), covers all of both areas.

Forecasters have said that snow showers from the far north-east will move southwards as the weekend goes on, with the chance of heavier snow for a time in the South East.

Most parts will see between 5-10 cm of the white stuff, though this could potentially increase to 15cm in some areas.

That warning is followed by a second yellow alert in force for all of Monday 8 January, from 00:00 to 23:59, this time covering the eastern parts of Berkshire including Slough, Bracknell Forest, and Windsor and Maidenhead.

The area is expected to be affected by cold easterly winds and snow showers with the potential for 1-4 cm of snow - perhaps as much as 7 cm over higher ground.

So how much are we going to be affected? The Met Office warns of the following:

There is a small chance of delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel

There is a small chance of power cuts. Other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off.

There is the probability of icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, and a small chance that untreated surfaces become impassable.
