Walk-in vaccination centre opens in Berkshire
The centre will enable young people to be vaccinated in Wokingham, Earley and Woodley

A new walk-in centre has opened to get young adults vaccinated in Wokingham, Earley and Woodley.
A surge vaccination centre has been opened by the NHS and Wokingham Borough Council for the next two weeks.
The walk-in vaccinations will run until Sunday, June 27, at the Bulmershe Leisure Centre in Woodlands Avenue in Woodley.
The vaccines will be reserved for the 18-24 year old demographic in the Wokingham borough wards of Evendons, Norreys, Wescott and Bulmershe & Whitegates (a ward that covers Woodley and Earley).
The centre will be open for vaccinations from 9.30am to 8.30pm each day, with those travelling by car able to park in Woodley town centre. Unfortunately, there is no parking available at the leisure centre; so drivers have been asked to be considerate and not cause any obstructions in neighbouring streets.
Young adults who want a vaccine must provide proof of address and proof of ID as the surge vaccinations are specifically for people living in the Wokingham borough wards listed above.
Those who have had coronavirus or coronavirus symptoms in the last 28 days have been told not to come to the centre.
Residents aged 25 and over are encouraged to book their tests through the NHS website.
Councillor Charles Margetts, executive member for health, well-being and adult social care said:
“We have worked with the NHS to provide this great opportunity to get many of our younger people vaccinated early because we know there is a specific issue in these areas. This is in line with what we have done throughout the pandemic, which is to use the data to proactively find ways to help the community. Some of our surge test centres have been very busy and we very much hope to see a lot of young people coming to get an early jab this week and next.”
Wokingham Borough had an infection rate of 92.9 cases per 100,000 people as of the latest data from Wednesday, June 9.
