Vandals stop traffic experiment in Thatcham
Stolen or vandalised bollards have prevented a traffic experiment in Thatcham.
The council said the experimental traffic order in Lawrences Lane has failed, and that it is now reassessing the move.
“In practice too many drivers ignored the restriction and the boards were repeatedly vandalised and stolen,” Denise Gaines (Lib Dem, Hungerford and Kintbury) told the executive committee last night (Thursday).
“Budget pressures and staff time adding more bollards there means the restriction cannot be made.”
She said that a new restriction with ‘permanent’ measures might be more successful and the council is investigating ways to make this happen.
West Berkshire Council promised to keep Thatcham informed.
