A trial date has been set for a 34-year-old man accused of the murder of a woman on New Year’s Eve.

Michael Bowen appeared by video-link from HMP Bullingdon for a preliminary hearing at Winchester Crown Court accused of the murder of Janet Bowen.

The 65-year-old was found dead at an address in Maple Gardens, Yateley, Hampshire, after police attended the property at 9.40am on December 31.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said previously: “Her family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

Judge Angela Morris set the trial for Bowen, of Maple Gardens, Yateley, to start on July 13 at Salisbury Crown Court, with a plea and trial preparation hearing to be held on April 2 at Winchester.

She said: “Given the nature of the offence which Mr Bowen has been charged with, no bail application has been made. Mr Bowen remains in custody at this stage.”
