Extra precautions are being taken by Thames Valley Police before the start of Royal Ascot next Tuesday.

The 5-day event will see 250,000 fans descend on Ascot, as visitors return to pre pandemic levels.

Thames Valley Police are sending more officers to the area, who’ll be carrying out checks and searches. During the event, they’ll be an increased presence with mounted, firearm and transport police in attendance. They state these measures are to make sure everyone, including the Royal Family, has a happy and safe return.

Superintendent Rory Freeman, Tactical commander for policing the event, says fans should remain “vigilant for anything that seems suspicious,” and encourages fans to report “inappropriate behaviour of friends against women and girls”.

Thames Valley Police will be working closely with Ascot Racecourse and the Royal borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to make sure the event is enjoyable, safe and protects local residents.
