Police begin Royal Ascot operation
Thames Valley Police say they're proud to police the five-day meeting
Thames Valley Police say they're looking ahead to Royal Ascot 2024, as preparations for the policing operation surrounding the five day event steps up.
Taking place from Tuesday 18 to Saturday 22 June, the event will see around 250,000 visitors descend upon Ascot and its historic racecourse for a week of racing. As always, members of the Royal family and notable dignitaries will also be in attendance.

Superintendent Andrew Cranidge, Tactical Commander for the policing of the event, said:
“Over the coming weeks, those local to Ascot will see more officers in the area with a number of our search teams carrying out their wide-reaching checks and searches. A number of visible and not so visible measures will be in place throughout the week, from our Mounted Section and Roads Policing teams, to armed and unarmed officers patrolling on foot. Several of our security measures will not be as obvious such as our Drone Unit, who will be keeping a watchful eye over proceedings. Please be reassured that these teams are in place to keep you safe and will allow for an enjoyable week of racing.
“If you see any of our teams while enjoying the racing, please come and say hello, they will be more than happy to chat to you. You are our extra eyes and ears so we ask that you remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to us. If something doesn’t seem right, please tell one of our officers or a member of racecourse staff. You will always have a unique perspective from what you can see and hear first-hand.
“On a practical note, please ensure you allow enough time to get to the races, as traffic regulations will be in place in Ascot. There will likely be an increase in footfall with people entering and leaving the racecourse and public transport will be busier than usual.
“We have a long history of policing Royal events, among which Royal Ascot sits proudly. I look forward to seeing many racegoers at this prestigious event, as we work to ensure those attending have a safe and enjoyable week at the races.”
