A private 4.75-acre triangular island on the River Thames, is set to be auctioned today (24th November).

Hallsmead Ait, located near Shiplake Lock in Henley-on-Thames, is currently owned by entrepreneur, adventurer, and philanthropist Jamie Waller.

The freehold property is uninhabited, densely wooded, and features a landing pontoon. Any potential alternative uses for the island would require relevant planning consents.

Jamie Waller has used LinkedIn in recent days to highlight the sale, drawing comparisons to Richard Branson’s private Necker Island.

One of his posts referred to the auction as the "last chance to register" in what may be a unique opportunity to acquire "your very own private island on the Thames."

In another post, Waller shared a news article and wrote: “The Necker of Henley in Thames maybe?”

The posts have garnered attention online and sparked public interest in the unusual sale of a private Thames island.

Hallsmead Ait is being sold by Savills as a freehold property with vacant possession and is set to be offered without a reserve price. It includes a jetty measuring approximately 12 metres by 1.5 metres.

The auction marks a rare opportunity to acquire an entire private eyot, with the sale concluding today.

Follow-up on this story is expected as new ownership details and plans for the site emerge.
